The Gents Newton Shield Team signed off their campaign in style with an impressive 13-3 victory over Elderslie on Tuesday 30th June 2026. It was a fantastic team performance and a fitting way to finish their competition.
Unfortunately, despite the convincing win, results elsewhere meant it wasn’t enough to secure progression from the league. With both Paisley and Renfrew winning their matches on the Monday evening, the qualification places were decided before the Tuesday fixture.
Team Manager, Stephen Mullan said, “While it’s disappointing not to advance this year, the team can be proud of their efforts, commitment and sportsmanship throughout the campaign. Well played to every member of the team and congratulations on finishing with such a strong performance. I would also like to congratulate Murdoch Carmichael on winning our Player of the Season Award, having secured an outstanding 40 individual points during this year’s Newton Shield campaign. It is thoroughly deserved recognition for his consistent performances throughout the season. We look forward to coming back even stronger next season”
