FootGolf - Scottish Open 22st -23rd  August 2020

The Executive Committee was  approached by the FootGolf Association of Scotland to determine our interest in being considered as a possible venue for their Scottish Open event which is due to take place across the weekend of  22-23 August. Given the publicity and revenue opportunity hosting such an event could provide we agreed to meet with their national representatives.

We delighted to confirm that after visiting a number of other venues Greenock GC has been asked to host the 2020 Scottish FootGolf Open.

Note - This event will ensure full compliance with the up to date Scottish Government and affiliated organisations COVID-19 advice and guidance during planning, preparation and participation.

This is indeed a significant diversion for the Golf club and if successful, it is hoped it may be chosen to host future events on their ever-growing tour calendar. It will also present an opportunity for our members to spectate and participate in this ‘form’ of golf and allow us to judge if there is sufficient interest amongst our members to consider a layout on the wee course going forward.

Below is some more detail which will hopefully inform you a little more on the event and what FootGolf is all about.

The schedule of the event will be :-
Fri 21 August - evening practice
Sat 22 August - practice after 3pm & International Match Scotland v Ireland (kick off 5pm)
Sun 23 August - 36 hole Scottish Open

Course Set - up
Given that Saturday August 22 is a scheduled 18-hole competition day for us, we were keen to avoid disrupting this whilst still trying to accommodate this exciting opportunity. So, with this in mind, the 18-hole FootGolf course design will be predominantly on our wee course with a few of the holes on the big course being used. They have agreed that their practice on the Saturday would not start until after 3pm and on holes 17 & 18 of the big course not until after the last golfers in competition have played thro’. This will allow us to hold a full competition on the Saturday with last tee time being 3pm at latest (to be confirmed).

Any hole which they will cut will NOT be on actual greens. They will be on apron areas to the rear of the greens. They will be fully reinstated after event and during our competition these holes can be treated as GUR. M&H will update on this prior to the event.

As with any other open or invitational event, the officials and competitors will be afforded full access to the lounge and dining areas for the duration of this event (COVID-19 permitting). The organisers anticipate 80-100 competitors from all four home nations, and it is hoped some international competitors may also participate depending on the travel restrictions.

This is a professional organisation with dedicated media and marketing staff so there is great potential for wide coverage of the Golf Club. It's hoped that this unique event in the Club’s history will be enjoyed by the membership and that all the officials and competitors receive a warm Greenock GC welcome.

We will of course update members on the arrangements as the preparations continue and hope all members will see the benefits this event will bring to the Club.
